Presentation board of Project 1 : The Old Charm of Georgetown

In this project, we were required to have a self visit to Georgetown and select one building in the areas of heritage site in Georgetown to produce a series of freehand sketches on one A2 size poster drawing or cartridge paper in portrait orientation.

The building that I selected is Penang Town Hall which is a British-built administrative building at Padang Kota Lama, in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. It is located adjacent to the City Hall and with a land area of 70,711 square feet. It takes pride of place in front of the Esplanade Padang.

The Town Hall is Penang's oldest municipal built around 1879 and is categorized as Grade 1 Heritage Building which means that it must be maintained in its original design.

The two-story white and yellowish color building has a symmetrical plan layout, and elevation with reference to Neoclassical architecture. The primary color which is gold yellowish representing the color of the Malay Kingdom. Thus, it exhibits the convergence of the east and west. Its facade has a prostyle portico at the center and it is flanked by the two projected wings. The portico displays three open arches on the ground floor facede, with central arch is slightly wider and taller than the two sides arches.

Double tuscan columns on the pedestal supported portico on each corner and the other two columns at the center, formed the arches.
